Discoid Cockroach (Blaberus discoidalis)
The Discoid Cockroach is one of the most popular feeder insects in the UK reptile hobby — and for good reason. Medium-to-large in size, nutritious, and completely unable to climb smooth surfaces, they make an outstanding staple feeder for a wide range of insectivores.
Why Reptile Keepers Love Them
- Excellent nutritional profile – high in protein with a good fat content, ideal for active and growing reptiles
- Can't climb glass or smooth plastic – no escapees, no stress
- Low odour – far less smell than crickets or locusts
- Soft-bodied nymphs – easier to digest for younger or smaller animals
- Long-lived adults – flexible feeding schedules with minimal die-off
- Legal throughout the US & UK – unlike some Blaberus species, Discoids are widely permitted
Suitable For
Bearded dragons, blue-tongued skinks, monitors, large geckos, chameleons, tegus, tarantulas, and other insectivores that benefit from a meaty, gut-loadable feeder roach.
